The public organization Science for Ukraine has relaunched the Micro Travel Grant Programme (MTG 2026) (starting 2 February 2026), with a focus on supporting early-career researchers working in Ukraine.
The programme aims to integrate Ukrainian researchers into the international scientific community through in-person participation in conferences, symposia, and workshops.
Grant amount: reimbursement of eligible expenses up to EUR 500.
MTG 2026 covers the following eligible costs:
- travel expenses,
- accommodation,
- conference registration fees.
Eligible applicants must meet all of the following criteria:
- be PhD students/doctoral candidates or researchers within 5 years after obtaining a PhD (or equivalent);
- be actively engaged in research;
- be affiliated (paid or unpaid) with a Ukrainian institution, including a university, an institute of the NAS of Ukraine, a scientific archive/museum/library;
- have an accepted oral presentation or poster at an in-person international event and present it personally (author order does not matter);
- have an ORCID iD;
- be able to cover the expenses upfront and apply for reimbursement after the trip.
Applicants holding paid academic positions outside Ukraine are not eligible. Each individual may receive only one grant within a 12-month period.
Grants are not provided for:
- esearch or teaching visits;
- events organized by the applicant’s employer or host institution;
- events within projects/consortia in which the applicant is involved;
- events with already secured full funding for participation or travel;
- online events.
Applications are submitted via an online form after reviewing the programme rules and preparing the required documents.
The applicant must provide:
- a short CV (up to 1 page, PDF),
- ORCID iD,
- proof of conference acceptance,
- a motivation statement in English (up to 1,000 characters, completed in the form),
- proof of affiliation with a Ukrainian institution.
Please note: applications are accepted only for events taking place no earlier than 30 days after the deadline of the respective application round.
